NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND
MODIFICATIONS TO c1964 BIRD GOLDEN EAGLE 15 Watt GUITAR AMPLIFIER
This is a 1960's Golden Eagle 2/15 guitar amp, owned by
Cliff Swinscoe in Preston, Lancashire, that has been modified by John Chambers in order to improve its
performance - i.e. increased volume, greater tone range, reduced tremolo surge, improved
reverb unit (Fender replacement), and smoother clipping at a higher volume. Measured
output of the amplifier is now 18.22 watts RMS @ 8 ohms (clean) and 20.74 watts
RMS @ 4 ohms.
Compare the internal shots of this amp below
with the un-modified Golden Eagle photos which are featured on Steve
Russell's Vintage Amps Website.

TESTIMONIAL LETTER RECEIVED BY JOHN FROM CLIFF SWINSCOE, THE
OWNER OF THE AMP:
Just a brief e mail to say thank you for performing
miracles on my old Bird amp, the difference is amazing and to my ears it
sounds as good as any amp out there, both vintage and modern. When I first
made the journey down to you from Preston, I was just wanting to get the amp
repaired and working, (something that other amp technicians weren't prepared
to take on), and I was therefore absolutely delighted that not only did you
get everything working properly, but you have transformed its performance. I
would imagine that the amp sounds better now than when it was brand new!
Kind regards,
Cliff."
