CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND

SERVICING A c1964 SELMER THUNDERBIRD TWIN 30 COMBO AMPLIFIER

Scanned from the Selmer Electronics Sept 1963 Catalogue.

As I forgot to take a complete front-shot of this one, my friend Steve has kindly sourced the above advert. Next time one comes through I’ll take a photo and add it accordingly.

The power-amp chassis as received.

…….and the top with the wrong output tubes. These should be KT88’s!

The pre-amp chassis with the full-length tag (group) boards.

Pre-amp chassis top.

……..and the control panel.

All serviced, done, and working fine here.

The original Goodman’s 12" drivers branded-up for Selmer.

The famous Selmer “winking eye” close-up. I usually rewire these with the coloured rubber insulators on the pins. From new, these pins are usually covered with black insulating tape (although I have seen some with a plastic insulator on them) but over time, the tape dries-up and comes off. If this happens and one puts one's hand inside of the case with a view to adjust the position of the eye (they do move a bit over time and with being transported in cars, vans etc) well…….there’s around 300 volts here, so I’m sure you can see where I’m coming from! Made safe now.
