CHAMP ELECTRONICS -" THE VINTAGE VALVE AMP HOSPITAL"

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND

SERVICING A c1964 SELMER ZODIAC TWIN 30 COMBO AMPLIFIER

Coming in from a real nice guy Kyle, she needed a real good once over!

Pretty scruffy and the lower back panel had been recovered….rather badly!

The power section was hanging off with only two of the four screws barely holding it. Also, notice the nail stuck to the magnet of the lower speaker.

As is often the case with old combos not regularly serviced….speaker nuts well undone!

Everything out.

The output tubes’ by-pass cap has fallen off. She needed a few things replacing.

The power section finished here….along with all the tubes sorted too.

The few components changes here as required.

The pre-amp section.

……..and the inside.

New longer oxygen-free cable for the Tremolo foot-switch.

All the electronics finished….on a final soak-test here.

The power section secured correctly now with all new hardware plus a new set of feet for the cabinet.

She now looks (and works) mint!

Top/back panel replaced along with new screws/hardware.

The wooden battening that holds the cage grill covering the power section had all fallen/broken off. I had to re-glue and repair all this.

Waiting for the glue to dry.

24 hours later, and the grill is now stapled back into place.

All finished. Kyle is considering getting some re-covering work done on her in the not to distant future. Here is his testimonial:

"Hi John. The amp sounds absolutely amazing! Thanks for your help. Found it very interesting watching you work and detecting / correcting the faults. I fancy getting something old and broken and having a mess around myself.

If you do come across any old Voxes for sale in the future please let me know.

Regards, Kyle."
